Platz Associates was selected to perform a feasibility study, code review, programming, and the architectural design of the phased adaptive reuse of the historic St. Mary’s Church into a performance hall and Franco-American heritage museum. In addition to the interior transformation, the exterior masonry of this impressively detailed Gothic style building was completely re-pointed to historic preservation standards. Additional phased renovations include a new slate roof and a modernized basement kitchen and social hall. A destination worth traveling to, the Franco-American Heritage Center has now become as much of a fixture in the Franco community of Lewiston’s “Little Canada” as when it served as the community parish.
